Brewer's Yeast

This is a rich natural source of B vitamins. Beware - a few dogs are allergic to Brewer's Yeast. They become itchy when fed brewers yeast. Multi vitamin mineral mix - If you do not want to purchase all the above supplements individually and then add each to your dog's food, I make a multi vitamin / mineral mix which combines Vitamin C, Kelp, Brewers yeast, Dolomite and Vitamin E in the ratios that I use them. You would then add 1 teaspoon per day per 10kg to your dog's food.

Cost is $18.50 per kilo.

Sulphur powder - yellow - also known as flours of sulphur

500g - $3.00

1kg - $5.00

Copper Sulphate - bluestone

500g - $4.40

Read Pat Coleby's book - Natural Pet Care for more info on whether you need to supplement with these two minerals. My dogs do not receive them routinely - but my horses do.

Lectade liquid concentrate

Lectade is useful for dehydrated animals - supplies energy and salts back to a dehydrated dog or puppy.

Make up solution by mixing 10ml of concentrate with 100ml water.

I use lectade on hot days, especially if we are at a show or trial. Also when bitches are in pup they often go off their food a bit - I make sure they get lectade in their water at that time to ensure they get their electrolytes.

Cost - 250ml - $14.50

Protexin - multi strain probiotic powder - much more concentrated than giving your dog yoghurt to get the "good" bacteria, and also a non dairy source so if your dog is allergic to dairy you can still supplement with a probiotic.

Each gram contains 60 million bacteria of 9 different species including Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum.

My dogs are given 1/4 teaspoon daily.

1kg - $77.00

100g - $9.00
Note this is also available as a much more concentrated liquid form, by order. Allow a few extra days for delivery - 125ml pump pack - $49.50

protexin

Flax Seed Oil - 100% pure human quality flax seed oil is a rich source of omega 3 essential fatty acids (60% Omega 3, 17% Omega 6). Dose rates are 1 teaspoon per 5 kg bodyweight,  1 tablespoon per 20 kg bodyweight, given once daily and mixed into the food.

Dose can be lowered by half if your dog is on a raw food diet. For pets with a history of itchy skin, it is recommended to stay at the higher dose. Other specific indications for flax seed oil include allergic dermatitis, flea allergy dermatitis, dry flaky skin and coat, bad body odour, arthritis, renal failure, bowel disease and some cancers.

It will produce an exceptional natural shine in the coat and control the "doggy odour" without needing regular shampoos.

 500ml - $18.00

Cod Liver Oil - Equinade Cod Liver Oil  - a palatable feed supplement containing Vitamins A & D.

The one oil Dr Ian billinghurst (of BARF diet fame) says should be given every single day (except during the first two trimesters of pregnancy).

500ml bottle - $7.75

Pure shark cartilage powder - 100% pure air dried shark cartilage powder. The raw material is harvested from sharks caught only in Southern Australian waters, which are free from damaging levels of mercury, ammonia and other heavy metals found in imported products. It is now being exported world wide.

The processing technique utilises an air drying process at low temperatures, which prevents thermal damage to the active ingredients and maximises its effectiveness.

Dose rate: one teaspoon per 20kg bodyweight mixed with food daily

200g tub - $33.00

500g tub - $69.00

Double Strength Apple Cider Vinegar - made from crushed, fermented dessert apples, Potties Apple Cider vinegar contains 8% acetic acid. Most Apple Cider Vinegars on the market are only 4%. Potties ACV also contains Vitamin B1 (2g/l).

My dogs are given 5ml daily (this is double strength), and my horses get 1/2 cup daily - both get it in their food.

1 litre - $9.00

5 litres - $35.00

Finely Powdered Garlic Powder - want to give your dog garlic each day, but don't want to mess around with fresh garlic? This garlic is finely powdered and dried - just like talcum powder.

My dogs get half a teaspoon daily.

500g - $4.95

1 kilo - $9.00
